A modern renovation made this multi-generational family home work better for hosting and busy lake life with the grandkids. Swapping the kitchen and dining room created a large open-concept living area centralized on the lake view. A modern kitchen with warm wood cabinets and a natural stone-wrapped hood is a great backdrop to the cozy living room. Nestled by expansive sliding doors is the new dining room, featuring a monochromatic & multi-textural wet bar. Check out the before and after of the same angles below.

AWARD WINNING HOME

BEFORE & AFTER

We have had some decorating advice on other projects from time to time but this is the first time we have had the pleasure of having someone who would take complete control of the entire interior design process from start to finish. Amy Little did an amazing job in listening to what we wanted to accomplish and turning our “wish list” into reality. At the very beginning she asked us what our “style” is and I don’t think we had a very good answer. I remember saying our style is “welcome to the lake”. In the planning stages of the renovation we struggled with the size of the kitchen in its existing space even after relocating the stairs to the basement to the other side of the space. Amy came up with the idea of moving the kitchen to what was the dining room which was under used. We had planned to take out some walls and make the space very open anyway. The result was an amazing kitchen overlooking the family room with a view of the lake and with a generous island to make breakfast for the grandchildren. The flow of the main floor is so much better than before. When selecting finishes, Amy gave us two, maybe three good options, not overwhelming us with too many choices. Her recommendations for paint colors (we have two friends who are using our colors in their homes), lighting and plumbing fixtures, furniture and wall decor have us thinking “is this our house”? She also gave us a really fun basement with a half bath and wet bar. We think the style or our home turned out to be a pleasant mix of a little contemporary, a little traditional and a little rustic. The neutral tones work so well together with a little touch of blue in the bar area. We are pleased to say that our home does very much say “welcome to the lake”. We highly recommend Amy and Home Comfort!
